PFDC Sunsilk Fashion Week Lahore 2011

An interesting initiative of the Fashion Design Council of Pakistan (PFDC) and Sunsilk, October 2011 was the beginning of her first PFDC Sunsilk Fashion Week Lahore 2011. PFDC Sunsilk Fashion Week will be held in the historic city of Lahore and will feature four days of fashion for over 32 designers, among them the biggest names in the industry as well as emerging talent. Each day will feature 8 shows the ramp with eight different designers to present the 20 creations from their respective collections. PFDC Sunsilk Fashion Week debut will be styled and choreographed by creative team Sabs the Salon and the gateway manages public relations productions Lotus.
The participating designers Xeeshan Ali, Ammar Belal, Asifa and Nabil, Asian Institute of Fashion Design, Body Focus Museum, Élan by Khadija Shah, Hajra Hayat, are Hoorain, HSY, Kamiar Rokni, Karma, Khaadi, Mary B., Mehdi, Munib Nawaz , Muse, Nayna, Nickie Nina, Nida Azwer, Nomi Ansari, Pakistan Institute of Fashion Design, Rehana Saigol, Rouge, Saai by Sahar Atif, Sadaf Malaterre, Sarah Salman, Malik Shaiyanne, Sobia Nazir, Sublime by Sara Shahid, Tazeen Hasan, Jamshed TeeJay by Feehan, Yahsi Waheed YBQ.

London Fashion Week 2011 Trends is over for the beginning of the year. And with a successful like series of collections, presentations, salons and praise from significant press and purchasers, FashionUnited have broken down new trends for Autumn/Winter 2011, where they were best seen, and no doubt what will be trickling down onto the high street come Autumn fashion.



In London Fashion Week 2011 Trends, the practical utility wear and glitzy evening wear of past seasons took a whole new trend for Autumn/Winter 2011, where designers turned to rich intricacy, detail, and sleek, considered chic. As far as investment fashion goes, one could see some pieces being pulled out of the archives in years to come. However, cleverly amongst the luxury and decor was a modern and sexy edge, which kept collections alive and moving forward.



The winter coat was widely featured in different forms amongst designers. From sleeveless blazers and furry gilets to wool meltons, Jaeger and Joanna Sykes at Aquascutum came up with never-ending variations, playing with extra-large collars and lapels, and giving a traditional staple a modern and sexy edge.



Texture became a governing force, this season, as this new sense of intricacy saw designers play with fabric. So wool was shredded, embellished, knitted, crocheted and plaid as seen at Christopher Kane and John Rocha. And in a clever take, designers played with contrasting and combining unexpected materials to skillful effect; Antonio Berardi inserted antique like lace embroidery into velvet devore dresses, and aggressive materials of goat hair, leather and savage fox sat against sheer chiffon and gold embroidery at Julien Macdonald.



As London Fashion Week 2011 Trends yet for all the serious chic, there was obviously an attempt to play modern and sexy, Antonio Berardi added a hardened edge to his lace panelled dresses and an old Hollywood glamour to lame show-stopping gowns with thigh high slits, and the Charles Anastase girl got a naughtier less innocent outlook.



Refreshingly in a continuation of the bright popping color we have seen for S/S 11, designers didn’t return to the usual Autumn black on black fare but added rich autumnal hues of russet, teal, mustard, cerise (Jaeger) leaf prints(Jonathan Saunders) and crayola brights(Burberry).



And with all the detail – appliqué, embroidery, fabric fusion – silhouettes became simpler and more refined for Autumn/Winter 2011 wear. Designers opted for either slim fit pants matched with fussy tops or played with long-lined silhouettes such as layering tunics over skin-tight trousers, draping (Todd Lynn) or over sheer loose flaring pants (Richard Nicoll).



And with the merging of artisan, good cutting and a sense of modernity, buyers such as Harrods’ Marigay McKee were scrambling to purchase ‘straight off the catwalk!’

Burberry streamed its show live to 150 countries from a digital screen in Piccadilly Circus. Commuters got daily updates on screens at more than 60 stations on the London Underground. People without show tickets chilled out at the open-air café on the cobblestones at Somerset House,London Fashion Week ' s fashion HQ, and watched the catwalk action live on an outdoor screen.



The buzz of high-tech activity was more than matched by the technical virtuosity on the catwalks. Christopher Kane engineered a liquid-look plastic into the seams and contours of his slimline sequinned and crocheted dresses. Mary Katrantzou gave Italian knitters nightmares as they laboured to translate her digital prints of Fabergé eggs and Meissen porcelain into cashmere and Lurex jacquard knitwear. Giles Deacon based a dramatic print on Paul Delaroche's The Execution of Lady Jane Grey . Holly Fulton sprinkled her New York-skyscraper prints with pearls, metal and pleated leather.

The experimentation was just as prevalent at the more established labels. Clare Waight Keller at Pringle created knitted coats from rabbit fur and Fair Isle, and sweaters from mink and Merino wool. Neoprene, patent leather, shearling and English tweeds came together for a sleek-chic, outdoorsy wardrobe in Joanna Sykes's first collection for Aquascutum, and Emma Hill at Mulberry took inspiration from the countryside, with hedgerow and feather-print silk maxi-dresses teamed with leather coats and anoraks.



Last night, Dunhill, one of British menswear's best-known names, staged its first fashion show, at its London headquarters in Jermyn Street. The show was an introduction to Menswear Day, which brings London Fashion Week to a close today. Meanwhile, in Milan, the focus is on women for the opening day of the third-city stop on the designer calendar for next autumn/winter.



While we saw some trend overlap with the New York shows at London Fashion Week, namely fur, parkas, and quirky hats (leave it to London to give Anna Sui’s cat hats a run for their money), Britain’s capital brought with it a whole slew of welcome additions including polka dots, plaids, and a surprising amount of dalmatian prints (they even made their way onto nails at Unique!)
